Your heart in your home

It’s been three years since we moved into our first home.

And it’s been three years since I’ve been staring at that box in the corner.

Promising to make time to unpack and sort the “stuff” in there.

For all I know, I could throw away the box and not miss the things that I once thought needed to be packed carefully into that box.

So, I walked across the room to face the box and decide whether the contents would be part of our lives or make their way to a new family.

It turned out the box contained my old university photos – in photo albums….printed photo albums. I remembered the thrill of heading to Big W to pick up my photos. The fun, laughter and carefree memories of being an untethered university student all came rushing back. I enjoyed sharing the moments with my husband and sister….. pointing out long lost friends, explaining questionable fashion trends, quickly skipping some photos and showing off my size 10 waistline lol

It was wonderful to have that moment and remember how far I’ve come and how much life has changed (for the better in most cases). It was also wonderful to find beautiful memories to share with my family and display in my home.

After all – not everything in my home is perfect but it is loved.

A photo of me taken more than a decade ago at Nobby's Beach made it to our photo wall. My husband cheekily grinned and said he wished he'd met me then....and thats a story for another time :)

I’ll end with a poem by one of my favourite Australian writers. I hope it will encourage you to face the “boxes” and display your heart in your home.

It’s never too late to make your house your home.
Stamp your personality on your home.
Invest some love in it.
Give it something of yourself.
Your colours.
Your pictures.
Your favourite objects.
In return, it will welcome you
and your friends.
